Julio Ricardo Varela

Julio Ricardo Varela is digital media director for Futuro Media, a frequent contributor to “Latino USA,” LatinoUSA.org editor, and co-host (with Maria Hinojosa) of the “In the Thick” podcast. Before joining Futuro, he was digital producer for Al Jazeera America’s “The Stream,” and in 2011, founded LatinoRebels.com. Varela’s work has been featured in many outlets, including The Guardian, Mic, ESPN, Quartz, Le Monde, “Face the Nation,” MSNBC, Fusion, Univision, and Telemundo. In 2015, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists honored him with its inaugural DALE Award, “given to an individual or company that steps up and goes above and beyond to ensure Latinos are fairly and accurately represented.”
