Juliet Lubwama

Student Poet, Creative Young Leaders Alliance, The Aspen Institute

Juliet Lubwama is a student poet in the Creative Young Leaders Alliance, a program of the Aspen Institute that provides mentorship and training to the next generation of young arts leaders. The daughter of Ugandan immigrants, she writes poetry that often revolves around family, heritage, and finding one’s identity. Lubwama believes poems can build bridges between cultures, beliefs, and people, helping them empathize with each other. While she hopes to be a neurologist, she has found ways to surround herself with words in every aspect of her life, whether writing, singing, or speaking. Lubwama is passionate about mental illness advocacy and is captain of her school’s speech and debate team
