Joe Henry is a songwriter, recording artist, producer, poet, and essayist. Over his 30-plus-year career, he has released 14 studio albums of his own and has worked with a diverse range of musicians, including Madonna, Ornette Coleman, Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint, Meshell Ndegeocello, Joan Baez, Ani DiFranco, and Richie Havens. A hyper-literate storyteller, Henry draws an author’s eye for the overlooked detail across a broad swath of American musical styles — folk, rock, jazz, and blues — rendering genre modifiers irrelevant. He has also produced four Grammy-winning records: Don’t Give Up on Me (Solomon Burke), Genuine Negro Jig (Carolina Chocolate Drops), A Stranger Here (Ramblin’ Jack Elliott), and Slipstream (Bonnie Raitt).
