Artist

Janet Echelman is an artist who builds living, breathing sculpture environments that respond to forces of nature — wind, water, and light — and become focal points for civic life. Recent prominent works include Skies Painted with Unnumbered Sparks, which premiered at the 2014 TED Conference; Water Sky Garden, a commission for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics; She Changes in Porto, Portugal; and Every Beating Second in San Francisco’s airport. Recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, Echelman was named a 2012 Architectural Digest Innovator. Her TED talk “Taking Imagination Seriously” is estimated to have been viewed by more than one million people.
