Jane Lubchenco is a distinguished professor at Oregon State University and US science envoy for the ocean at the State Department. A marine ecologist, Lubchenco served as undersecretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from 2009 to 2013, where she helped craft the National Ocean Policy to return US fisheries to sustainability and profitability. She is one of the most highly cited ecologists in the world, with eight publications recognized as Science Citation Classics. A member of the National Academy of Sciences, she has received numerous awards, including a MacArthur genius award and 20 honorary doctorates.
