Isabel V. Sawhill is a senior fellow in economic studies at the Brookings Institution, where she co-directs the Center on Children and Families and the Budgeting for National Priorities Project. She previously served as vice president and director of economic studies at Brookings. A social policy expert, Sawhill’s research has spanned economic and social issues such as economic growth, poverty and inequality, social mobility, the well-being of children, and changes in the family. She is the author of Generation Unbound: Drifting into Sex and Parenthood Without Marriage, co-author (with Ron Haskins) of Creating an Opportunity Society, and board president of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.
