Gregory Garre is a partner at Latham and Watkins global law firm. Prior to this, he was global chair of the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate practice from 2009 to 2025. Previously, Garre served as the 44th solicitor general of the United States from 2008 to 2009 and, before that, as principal deputy solicitor general and assistant to the solicitor general. He has argued 50 cases before the Supreme Court and scores of cases before the courts of appeals. Garre’s recent Supreme Court wins include SEC v. Cochran, Fisher v. University of Texas, and Ashcroft v. Iqbal. He has taught Supreme Court practice and constitutional law at George Washington University Law School and speaks on issues related to the Supreme Court and appellate practice.
