Dawn Porter is a documentary filmmaker. Her first feature, Gideon’s Army, garnered numerous honors including the 2013 Sundance Film Festival Editing Award. Other work includes Rise: The Promise of My Brother’s Keeper, for which she interviewed President Obama, and Trapped, which earned the 2016 Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Award for Social Impact Filmmaking. Porter’s films have appeared on PBS, OWN, Fusion, The New York Times, Amazon, and Discovery Channel; her work has been commissioned by TIME, the Center for Investigative Reporting, and The Ford Foundation. In 2016, Porter was named one of Variety’s 10 Documakers to Watch and received the Robert and Anne Drew Award for Documentary Excellence at DOC NYC’s Visionaries Tribute.
