Carla Shatz is the Sapp Family Provostial Professor of Biology and Neurobiology and director of Bio-X at Stanford University. She was previously chairwoman of the Neurobiology Department at Harvard Medical School. Shatz has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the Institute of Medicine, and the Royal Society of London as a foreign member. She received the Sackler Prize for Distinguished Achievement in Developmental Psychobiology in 2013 and the Robert J. and Claire Pasarow Foundation Award in Neuropsychiatry Research. Shatz is past president of the 40,000-member Society for Neuroscience.
