
Bennet Omalu is founder and president of Bennet Omalu Pathology, a private medico-legal consulting corporation, and a part-time forensic pathologist and neuropathologist at San Joaquin County, CA. The Nigerian-born doctor is best known for discovering and identifying, in 2002, chronic brain damage as a major factor in the deaths of some professional athletes. His life and pioneering work on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) are chronicled in the 2015 book and film, Concussion. Omalu was honored as a 2015 WebMD Health Hero in the science category for his history-making work on CTE and is the recipient of the US Sports Academy’s Dr. Ernst Jokl Sports Medicine Award.
