Arne Duncan is secretary of the US Department of Education, where he has taken historic steps to preserve jobs, strengthen education, and make college affordable for all. Prior to his appointment in 2009, he served as CEO of the Chicago Public Schools from 2001 through 2008. He previously ran the nonprofit Ariel Education Initiative, which helped fund college educations for inner-city children. Duncan has served on numerous boards, including Chicago Cares and the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and has received many honors, including recognition from the Civic Federation of Chicago and the Anti-Defamation League.
