
Andrew von Eschenbach is president of Samaritan Health Initiatives and an adjunct professor at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. From 2005 to 2009, he was commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, which he joined after four years as director of the National Cancer Institute. Von Eschenbach’s career includes over three decades as a physician, surgeon, oncologist, and executive, including chairman of the Urologic Oncology Department, executive vice president, and chief academic at MD Anderson Cancer Center. A founding member of the National Dialogue on Cancer, he made the 2006 TIME 100 list and was one of Modern Healthcare/Modern Physician’s 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare.
