Alonzo King
Choreographer; Founder and Artistic Director, Alonzo King LINES Ballet
Alonzo King is a choreographer and artistic director of Alonzo King LINES Ballet, which he founded in 1982. Calling his works “thought structures,” he has created works for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Ballet Béjart Lausanne, Frankfurt Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, Hubbard Street, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Joffrey Ballet, and Royal Swedish Ballet, among many others. Named a Master of Choreography by the Kennedy Center in 2005, King has received the NEA Choreographer’s Fellowship, the Jacob’s Pillow Creativity Award, the Irvine Fellowship in Dance, a N.Y. Bessie Award, the Doris Duke Artist Award, Isadora Duncan awards, and Choreographer of the Year from Danza y Danza.
