Alberto Carvalho is superintendent of Los Angeles Unified School District, since 2022. He leads the development and implementation of the district’s 2022-2026 Ready for the World Strategic Plan and has led the establishment of 12 new education compacts between the district and local municipalities. Carvalho was previously superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 14 years, where he earned multiple Superintendent of the Year awards, including by the National Association for Bilingual Education in 2019 and in both the State of Florida and the nation in 2014. An advisory committee member to the Harvard Program on Education Policy and Governance and member of the Homeland Security Academic Partnership Council, he previously served on the National Assessment Governing Board.
