Abraham Verghese is the Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professor and vice chair for the theory and practice of medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases, and infectious diseases, his work focuses on the patient-physician relationship and on the bedside diagnostic examination. He has published extensively in medical and popular publications, including The New Yorker and Sports Illustrated, and his book Cutting for Stone spent two years on the New York Times best-seller list. Verghese is a master of the American College of Physicians and a 2014 recipient of the Heinz Award for Arts and Humanities.
