Xavier Becerra

Attorney General, State of California

Xavier Becerra is attorney general of California, the first Latino to hold this office in the history of the state. Prior to his election in 2016, he served twelve terms in the US House of Representatives, where he was the first Latino on the Ways and Means Committee, the ranking member of its Subcommittee on Social Security, and chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Becerra previously served one term in the California Legislature as representative of LA’s 59th Assembly District. He is a former deputy attorney general with the California Department of Justice and began his legal career in 1984 working in a legal services office representing the mentally ill.
