Stephen Breyer

Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States

Stephen Breyer has been a US Supreme Court associate justice since 1994, after being nominated by President Clinton. Known for his pragmatic approach to the Constitution, Breyer was previously a member of the US Judicial Conference and the US Sentencing Commission. Breyer served as chief judge of the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit from 1990 to 1994. He taught at Harvard Law School for nearly 30 years and has written several books, including his most recent, Making Our Democracy Work.
