Siddhartha Mukherjee is an assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University and staff physician at Columbia University Medical Center. A cancer physician and researcher, he is the author of The Gene: An Intimate History, The Laws of Medicine, and The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, which won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize in general nonfiction. Mukherjee collaborated with Ken Burns on a PBS documentary based on this book, updating it with recent discoveries in oncology. He’s published articles in Nature, The New England Journal of Medicine, The New York Times, and Cell. In 2014, the government of India awarded Mukherjee the Padma Shri, its fourth highest civilian prize.
