Robin Shandas is a professor and founding chairman of the Bioengineering Department at University of Colorado Denver, with joint appointments at The Children’s Hospital of Colorado in pediatric cardiology and in the Department of Surgery. Using a bioengineering approach, Shandas works to better diagnose and treat congenital heart disease in neonates, children, and infants. He has started seven companies in areas including new polymer materials for medical devices, next-generation ultrasound imaging techniques, and novel esophageal biomarkers. He has over 200 scientific publications and is one of the few PhD scientists to receive the NIH K24 award for patient-oriented research.
