Peter de Menocal

Peter B. deMenocal is a professor and vice chair in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University. At Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, he uses geochemical analyses of ocean sediments to understand past changes in tropical ocean temperatures and terrestrial climate, and he leads the new Center for Climate and Life, which seeks to understand climate change impacts and explore sustainable energy solutions. DeMenocal has written over 100 scientific articles and led numerous oceanographic research expeditions. He was awarded the Lenfest Columbia Distinguished Faculty Award in 2008 and the Distinguished Brooksian Award in 2013 and is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union.
