Nancy Sullivan

Senior Investigator, Biodefense Research Section, NIAID/VRC

Nancy Sullivan is a tenured senior investigator and chief of the Biodefense Research Section at the Vaccine Research Center, a division of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at NIH. She researches the immunologic correlates and mechanisms of protection against infection by hemorrhagic fever viruses, such as Ebola, a highly lethal disease for which there are currently no treatments. A leader in the field of filovirus immunology and vaccine development, Sullivan and her team were the first to demonstrate vaccine-induced protection against Ebola, resulting in human clinical trials for an Ebola vaccine. More recently, they discovered a potently protective antibody that is undergoing clinical trials in 2017.
