Nancy Andreasen

Nancy Andreasen is the Andrew H. Woods Chair of Psychiatry and director of the Iowa Neuroimaging Consortium at University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. A pioneer in the use of MRIs to identify brain mechanisms of mental illnesses, Andreasen developed the first widely used scales for rating symptoms of schizophrenia. Her 15 books include a brain trilogy for nonscientists, and her board service includes the governing council of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science. Among her numerous honors are the President’s National Medal of Science and the American College of Psychiatrists’ Distinguished Service Award.
