Nabeel Abboud-Ashkar

Co-Founder and Artistic Director, Polyphony Foundation

Nabeel Abboud-Ashkar is a member of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra who began studying the violin at age 8 in his native Nazareth. He founded and ran the Barenboim-Said Music Conservatory in Nazareth in 2006, which in 2012 became known as the Polyphony Conservatory, where he currently serves as artistic director. In 2011, he co-founded The Polyphony Foundation in New York, and Polyphony Education in Israel. In 2012, he founded the Galilee Chamber Orchestra, in which he is also an active member of. Abboud-Ashkar has performed as a soloist with the Jerusalem Camerata and the Haifa Symphony orchestras. In 2012, he received the Yoko Ono Award for Courage in the Arts.
