Michael Marmot is director of the UCL Institute of Health Equity. His 35 years of leading research groups on health inequalities includes chairing the Commission on Social Determinants of Health and the National Cancer Action Team’s Breast Screening Review. Marmot is a member of The Lancet-University of Oslo Commission on Global Governance for Health, principal investigator of the Whitehall II Studies of British Civil Servants, and leads the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing. He is president of the British Lung Foundation and recipient of the Balzan Prize for Epidemiology and William B. Graham Prize for Health Services Research.
