Founder, President, and CEO, Forest Trends
Michael Jenkins is founding president and CEO of Forest Trends, a nonprofit whose mission is to conserve forests and other ecosystems through a range of payment and incentive mechanisms. From 1989 to 1999, he worked for MacArthur Foundation’s Global Security and Sustainability Program. He was a senior forestry advisor to the World Bank in 1989, did agroforestry with USAID in Haiti, and worked on agriculture, apiculture, and forestry projects in Paraguay with the Peace Corps. Jenkins received the 2015 Social Entrepreneur Award from the Schwab Foundation and the 2010 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship; in 2015 the MacArthur Foundation awarded Forest Trends the Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.
