Michael Greenstone is the Milton Friedman Professor in Economics, the College, and the Harris School, and director of the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, where he directs the Energy and Environment Lab at UChicago Urban Labs. Previously, he was chief economist for President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers and on the US energy secretary’s advisory board. Greenstone directed the Brookings Institution’s Hamilton Project and has since joined its advisory council. Prior to Chicago, he was the 3M Professor of Environmental Economics at MIT. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, fellow of the Econometric Society, and editor of the Journal of Political Economy
