Maria Banks is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Banks served on the Phoenix Mars Mission team and currently works with science teams for spacecraft orbiting Mars, Mercury, and the Moon. Banks, a planetary geologist, studies processes that act on the surface of the Earth and other bodies. Her research includes glaciers and ice sheets on Earth and Mars, migrating sand dunes on Mars, and tectonic landforms on the Moon and Mercury.
