Malek Jandali is a Syrian-American composer and pianist whose compositions integrate Middle Eastern modes into Western classical forms ranging from chamber music to orchestral. His albums include SoHo, Echoes from Ugarit,and Emessa and have been performed by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Stockholm Solister, and Russian Philharmonic Orchestra. Jandali has spoken at Harvard University, Duke University, and the United Nations headquarters in New York City. He has been named a 2015 Carnegie Corporation Great Immigrant, received the 2014 Global Music Humanitarian Award, and the 2013 GUSI Peace Prize for dedication to peace and humanitarian causes featured in his 2013-2014 world tour, The Voice of the Free Syrian Children.
