Laura Bush is the former first lady of the United States and chair of the Woman’s Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute, where she works on global health care innovations, empowering women in emerging democracies, education reform, and supporting those who have served in the American military. In her current and former roles, she championed key issues in the fields of education, health care, and human rights. Author of the best-selling memoir, Spoken from the Heart, Bush founded the Texas Book Festival and the National Book Festival. Early in her career, she taught in Texas public schools and worked as a public school librarian.
