Larry Smarr

Larry Smarr is founding director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), a UC San Diego/UC Irvine partnership, and the Harry E. Gruber Professor in UCSD’s Computer Science and Engineering Department. Previously, he was founding director of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A pioneer in the quantified-self movement and leader in advanced cyberinfrastructure, Smarr has served on top-level advisory committees to the National Institutes of Health, NASA, National Science Foundation, and US Department of Energy. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
