Gene Block is chancellor of UCLA and holds faculty appointments in integrative biology and physiology and in psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. His research focuses on the effects of aging in the nervous system and how it impacts biological timing. Prior to his appointment in 2007, he was vice president and provost of the University of Virginia. Block is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; he has served on the boards of the Association of American Universities and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, among others.
