Eric Nestler is a professor and chair of neuroscience at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he is also director of The Friedman Brain Institute. He uses animal models to better understand molecular mechanisms behind addiction and depression, aiming to develop improved treatments. Named among the 400 most highly influential biomedical scientists in the world by the European Journal of Clinical Investigators, Nestler published research in the journal Nature that challenged current opinions about depression and treatment drugs. His awards include the Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health from the Institute of Medicine and NARSAD’s Goldman-Rakic Prize. (Festival Underwriter Presenter)
