Derek Bok is the 300th anniversary university research professor and university president emeritus at Harvard University. Bok is currently chair of the Spencer Foundation, which specializes in supporting research on education. He has also been a professor of law and dean of the Harvard Law School. He served as president of Harvard University from 1971 to 1991 and again as interim president from 2006 to 2007. He has written six books on higher education: Beyond the Ivory Tower, Higher Learning, Universities and the Future of America, The Shape of the River, Universities in the Marketplace,and Our Underachieving Colleges. He is also the author of The Politics of Happiness: What Government Can Learn from the New Research on Well-Being.
