Cindy Shank

Featured Role, The Sentence

Cynthia Shank is subject of the 2018 film, The Sentence. In 2008, she was sentenced to a 15-year federal prison sentence for a first time, non-violent offense (drug conspiracy charges) — six years after the events occurred and after she had rebuilt her life and started a family. A proud mother to three girls, Shank has decided to share her story with the hope that raising awareness will help create change in a system that tears apart families. She was released from prison in 2017 after President Obama commuted her sentence in 2016. The Sentence won the 2018 Sundance Film Festival audience prize for documentaries.
