Chellie Pingree

US Representative (D-ME)

Chellie Pingree is a US representative from Maine’s 1st congressional district, since 2009. A House Appropriations Committee member, she introduced the Food Recovery Act, aimed at reducing food waste, and the Local Farms, Food and Jobs Act, provisions of which were included in the successfully passed Farm Bill. She owns Nebo Lodge and Restaurant and the organic Turner Farm in North Haven. Pingree was previously president and CEO of Common Cause and a member of the Maine Senate from 1992 to 2000. In the 1970s, she started an organic farm that sold produce to summer residents and raised sheep for wool, eventually employing ten people in a mail-order knitting business.
