Geneticist Specialist, Children's National Health System (Festival Underwriter)
Carlos Ferreira is a clinician and scientist at Children’s National Health System and the National Human Genetics Research Institute at the National Institutes of Health. His research focuses on the discovery of genes in undiagnosed genetic conditions. Ferreira was instrumental in the discovery of a condition causing calcification in the arteries of infants, known as GACI disease, and identifying the two causative genes. His work sheds light on the process of arterial damage from external injury and other environmental factors, and he works to develop treatments for these rare conditions that may contain clues for the management of more common vascular problems that lead to heart attacks and stroke.
