Commissioner, Chicago Public Library
Brian Bannon is the Chicago Public Library commissioner. As CPL’s chief executive officer, he is responsible for 80 libraries that serve 2.6 million Chicago residents. Under his leadership, CPL has won numerous honors, such as the Chicago Social Innovator award. In 2013, it was ranked first in the United States and third in the world for libraries leading in the knowledge economy. CPL is currently a finalist for the National Medal, the highest prize for US libraries. Before Chicago, Bannon served in leadership roles at San Francisco Public Library, Seattle Public Library, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
