Executive Director, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) and NALEO Educational Fund

Arturo Vargas is executive director of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), a membership organization of Latino policymakers and their supporters, and of the NALEO Educational Fund, a national nonprofit that promotes the full participation of Latinos in civic life. He has held both positions since 1994. Vargas previously had various roles at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, including vice president for community education and public policy. Before joining MALDEF, he was the senior education policy analyst at the National Council of La Raza. Vargas is a nationally recognized expert in Latino demographic trends, electoral participation, voting rights, the Census, and redistricting.
