Arthur Leonard Caplan is founding head of the Division of Medical Ethics at New York University Langone Medical Center. He has founded similar institutions and taught at University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, University of Minnesota, University of Pittsburgh, and Columbia University. Caplan has written or edited 32 books, served on numerous committees, and is a board member of The Franklin Institute, Columbia University School of Nursing, and American Association of University Professors Foundation. His many honors include Person of the Year by USA Today and one of the ten most influential people in science by Discover magazine.
