Amanda Lindhout is founder and executive director of the Global Enrichment Foundation (GEF). A former freelance journalist, Lindhout was on assignment in Somalia in 2008 when she was kidnapped and held hostage for 460 days. After her release, she founded GEF in 2010 to ignite leadership in Somalia through education and economic initiatives. Lindhout advises governments, leaders, nonprofits, and policymakers on the importance of using education to counter radicalization. Her story and her work has been featured in numerous publications and TV and radio programs. Lindhout’s memoir, A House in the Sky, is a New York Times best seller.
