Art and Culture in Modern China

China has experienced a tumultuous history, from the fall of its last emperor, through the Communist Revolution, through a cultural revolution, and most recently, through its economic reforms. Given these changes and upheavals, what is the continuing influence of classical Chinese writing and philosophies? What is the role of traditional Chinese art and culture? What will be the influence of the explosive imaginative powers of a new generation of Chinese artists and what are their key influences?
