Our Imperfect Union

The political, social, cultural, and religious divides in today’s America are powerful — and plenty of factors are fanning the flames. Is American democracy actually, as some claim, in danger? Or are the ideas, principles, structures, and processes our founders built strong enough to see us through? We’ll look at American democracy through many lenses, from federal to local, and from our politics and voting patterns to pressure points such as free speech, religious freedom, criminal justice, education, and citizen engagement. Can our social fabric be mended?  Can we revive a shared “American-ness”? What needs to change?
