Support Schools: Antonio Villaraigosa
Next up in our series, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa champions education as the key issue that will make America stronger.
“This is the economic issue of our time, this is the civil rights issue of our time, and this is the democracy issue of our time,” stresses Villaraigosa.
The achievement gap and number of children not graduating from high school is devastating to our country. And it’s a problem we all share, whether or not we have children in public schools. “It’s incumbent upon all of us to make America more competitive,” says Villaraigosa. And fixing our schools, mentoring children, and holding politicians accountable for education reform are all vital steps in improving our standing in the world. (In his discussion with Cory Booker and Gavin Newsom, Villaraigosa states that the US will be 1 million college graduates down by 2050.)
