How Can Faith Bring People Together?

Sep 11, 2018
CATEGORY: Society, U.S.A.

Adam Hamilton pastors the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. At Aspen Ideas 2017, he talked about the role faith plays in bringing people together.

Adam Hamilton pastors the largest United Methodist Church in the United States. Within his congregation of 20,000 in Kansas, he works to mitigate deep divisions. Some of those divides, he says, are happening everywhere and are tearing at the social fabric of our country. His plan is to get people to think differently by focusing on influencing, not irritating, and seeing the humanity in others — even those we strong disagree with. He speaks with David Brooks, New York Times op-ed columnist and commentator for the “PBS Newshour.” Brooks is also an executive director at the Aspen Institute.
