is the former president of Guatemala—from 1986-1991—where he was elected as the first civilian president of Guatemala following 15 years of military rule. He currently sits in Congress as a political consultant. Previously, Cerezo was a congressman and the leader of the Guatemalan Christian Democratic Party. Cerezo started the democratic process in Guatemala, which has been maintained. He also began peace talks with Guatemalan guerrillas, giving rise to the Framework for Negotiations Peace Agreements.
