Susan Black is a registered nurse practitioner and the Chief Kaizen Promotion Officer for Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. As a member of the senior executive team, she is responsible for the implementation of Toyota’s production system, a philosophy known as “lean” in health care, hospitalwide. A passionate educator, Black has mentored many students, including those from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, University of Southern California, and California State University masters programs. Her numerous awards include the National Management Association Silver and the Golden Knight Award for Outstanding Leadership. Black also volunteers at a faith-based, nonprofit home for women in need that she co-founded in 2003.
