Randi Weingarten

Randi Weingarten is president of the American Federation of Teachers, a union of 1.5 million professionals in education, health care, and government service. She was elected in 2008, following twelve years as president of New York City’s United Federation of Teachers. Weingarten initiated AFT’s Quality Education Agenda, which advances reforms grounded in evidence, equity, scalability, and sustainability. She advocates “solution-driven unionism” to unite the interests of AFT members with those they serve. She has forged numerous parent and community partnerships to spur public-school reform.
