Randi Weingarten

President, American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO

Randi Weingarten is president of the American Federation of Teachers, a union of 1.5 million professionals. She was elected in 2008, following twelve years as president of New York City’s United Federation of Teachers. Weingarten served on Governor Cuomo’s education reform commission in 2012-2013 and on the Equity and Excellence Commission, chartered by Congress. The New York Observer in 2013 named her one of the most influential New Yorkers of the past 25 years, and Washington Life included her on its 2013 Power 100 list. Weingarten’s column “What Matters Most” ap­pears in the New York Times’ Sunday Review.
