Jon Hamilton is a science correspondent at NPR, currently covering neuroscience, infectious disease, and biomedicine. In February 2020, Hamilton reported from Seattle on the first US cases of SARS-CoV-2. Later, he focused on assessing the infection’s true mortality rate, its impact on intensive care units, and how the virus affects the brain. Other recent stories have looked at the FDA’s approval of a controversial Alzheimer’s drug, the science of artificial surfing waves, and the evolution of human language. Hamilton was part of the NPR team that reported on the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa, coverage that received a Peabody Award. Before joining NPR, Hamilton was a media fellow with the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and a health care reporter at the Memphis newspaper, Commercial Appeal.
