Anne Pasternak

Shelby White and Leon Levy Director, Brooklyn Art Museum

Anne Pasternak is the Shelby White and Leon Levy Director of the Brooklyn Museum, where since 2015 she has focused on strengthening it as a courageous, pioneering, and inspirational center for the visual arts. In her 30-year career, Pasternak has been an advocate for the civic and democratic roles cultural and educational institutions can play, and she is committed to projects linking art and social justice. She was previously president and artistic director of Creative Time, a nonprofit arts organization where she initiated projects that gave artists opportunities to respond to political and environmental challenges. Projects under her direction included sculptural installations in Grand Central Station’s Vanderbilt Hall and the Tribute in Light, the twin beacons of light that illuminated the former World Trade Center site after 9/11.
